MEDIA BOOT CAMP
In November 2006 at Sanya, Hainan Island, we launched MindShare's Media Boot Camp training - the media foundation program - for almost 50 recruits among our newer junior media personnel from strategic planning, tactical planning, buying, research and insights groups and other specialist units across all our China offices.
The Boot Camp delivers foundational knowledge in a compressed time frame where the key bases of operational and ethical knowledge are covered.
Over a 5-day period, we brought these trainees through a rigorous, intensive training programme which covered: the media '101', MindShare's structure, who we are, what we do, and our proprietary planning approach.
Our senior management came to kick-off the week and show their support by addressing why they have been recruited, what it means to the company, what they should get out of it, and also provided a Q&A opportunity for them to get to know them a little better.
There was team building through fun indoor and outdoor beach and resort activities, creative and engaging exercises, quizzes and drills, heaps of discussion and presentations. One key group project was set during the week which involved delivering a communications plan against a real client brief.
On Day 1, the first round of Boot Camp recruits were still a bit more timid, getting familiar with each other but by the end of Day 5, they were energetic, highly participative, and friendly with one another as if they were a big family getting together for a reunion and were sad that Boot Camp had to come to a close.
MindShare Media Boot Camp will run at least twice a year offsite.
As a new hire and graduate, when you join MindShare, you shall have the opportunity to be a Boot Camp recruit and part of the best training in the media industry, training for the 21st century.
